This positioning reflects a broader national context already recognised in Spain’s Quantum Technologies Strategy, which identifies Asturias as one of the country’s emerging quantum ecosystems.
Quantum Asturias is driven by two organisations connecting research, technology development and knowledge transfer across the region. Explore how each contributes to the ecosystem:
CTIC Technology Centre – Quantum Technologies Unit
CTIC Quantum Lab contributes capabilities in technology transfer and applied validation, supporting the adoption of quantum technologies in business and industrial environments. Its activity combines applied research, experimentation, and use-case development in areas such as quantum computing, post-quantum cryptography, and hybrid models.
This activity is supported by infrastructures such as QUTE (Quantum Testbed), a quantum emulation platform designed for the validation of algorithms and application scenarios. Within the ecosystem, CTIC acts as a bridge towards real-world adoption, facilitating connections between scientific, technological and application-oriented capabilities. CTIC collaborates with organisations such as GAIA and SCAYLE, and coordinates the ARQADE Network, promoting the transfer and adoption of these technologies.

Quantum & High-Performance Computing
The QHPC group contributes expertise in quantum computing, high-performance computing (HPC), and artificial intelligence, bridging advanced research with real-world applications. Its activity focuses on quantum algorithm design, quantum machine learning (QML), and hybrid models, with applications in areas such as biomedicine, high-energy physics, optimisation, and complex data analysis.
Within the ecosystem, the group strengthens capabilities in software, algorithms, and scientific validation. It collaborates with CTIC on platforms such as QUTE, and with CINN on adapting algorithms to emerging hardware architectures. The group maintains collaborations with leading international institutions, including CERN, IBM, ETH Zurich, the University of Cambridge, and EPFL.

Alongside the driving organisations, the Asturian quantum ecosystem also includes additional scientific, technological and industrial capabilities connected to the development, experimentation and application of quantum technologies.
Centre for Research in Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology
CINN-CSIC contributes expertise in experimental quantum hardware and advanced materials, providing the physical foundations for next-generation quantum technologies. Its research focuses on systems based on Rydberg atoms, including quantum simulators built from arrays of neutral atoms trapped with optical tweezers, aimed at exploring new quantum computing architectures.
Within the ecosystem, it strengthens capabilities in experimental infrastructure and hardware development, working closely with QHPC on algorithm design and with CTIC on the exploration of application pathways. CINN collaborates with institutions such as ICMM-CSIC, INMA (CSIC–University of Zaragoza), and CVC, as well as with companies including Pasqal, in the development of advanced quantum technologies.
